New Yahoo! Weather Geeklet

Posted in Weather by brian 2739 days ago

When I noticed that my geeklets used to retrieve and parse the weather icon images from Yahoo! weather were no longer working due to recent changes at yahoo.com, I had to update them which is what you'll find here. These are formatted for Washington DC so obviously you'll have to update the scripts with your country, state, city and numerical city code accordingly.

Interesting but Yahoo weather isn't as good as Environment Canada website, for Canadian cities. See the following site, anyone could help with a script to grab the 7 days forecast picture, just under "Prévisions" on this webpage? This would be really great!

Thanks!

Hi,

on my Lion 10.7.4 it stopped working. It seems to me they changed a little the weather.yahoo.com/ page structure, and my sed also work differently...

Anyway, with the that code to retrieve the actual weather image:

curl --silent "http://weather.yahoo.com/germany/brandenburg/berlin-schonefeld-international-airport-22276234/" | grep "current-weather" | sed "s/.*background:url(\('.*'\)) no-repeat scroll.*/\1/" | xargs curl --silent -o /tmp/weather.png

work perfectly on my machine.

Happy geekDay!

None of the weather geeklet's work for me. All that ever works on them is the picture....never the actual weather. Any help?

I'm having the same problem as MichaelaRR. The weather icon changes just fine, but I've never been able to get the degrees or conditions to change, for this or any other weather app.

I looked on weather.yahoo looking for the RSS feed to see if that changes anything, and they no longer support RSS.

The SED process for this shell script is a bit too processor intensive for my taste. Of course I have an old MacBook core 2 duo with four gigs of ram that is feeling its age.
