Status Bar Replacement

Posted in System by rjorgenson 661 days ago

Update 04/24/10 - Just pushed a new version to github - mostly code layout changes, will make it much easier to add more geeklets to the script in the future. Also fixes(as best I can) some battery weirdness.

I just got a 13" MacbookPro as my first mac laptop (been on an iMac for quite a while) and found that the status bar just doesn't offer enough space for everything I'm used to having up there. I set out to replace as much functionality of the status bar with geektool at the bottom of my screen. After a few hours of work I have a slightly useful script that reports date/time and battery usage.

You will need to download the script from here

The icons are part of the Mono Icon set from Tutorial 9 resized to 12x12 pixels and set as the status report success image in geektool.

The font is anonymous pro (free) at 11pt font.

If you find any bugs or have any questions you can post here, email them to me, or comment on the github page.

More is planned but figured I would get this out there for now to get some feedback on use cases, features, bugs, etc. Hope you enjoy!

EDIT - I have added some features since I posted this, please check the comments in the script/README for usage!

I can't seem to get it to work. Tried reading through the readme but I'm not much a coder. The error I seem to get is the failure sign. It looks really great though.

Very nice.

You didn't mention there's an option for a charge meter.

Only thing I need to find is a white plug icon, to make it more usable on my dark background.
